The No-Brainer Productivity Hack You Probably Haven’t Heard Of
The Accountability Tool For Introverts
--
Do you know that “how to get things done” and “productivity apps” have thousands of Google searches per month?
Admit it, you are (or have been) one of the thousands…
I used to be part of the club.
That’s how addicted we are to finding solutions. The next shiny object. The magic pill.
But how can we get things done if we don’t know how to get things started?
Let me introduce you to Focusmate.
You don’t need information and apps to help get things done. Instead, you want a kickstarter.
Starting is more difficult than finishing! Once you have the motivation to start, it’s very easy to just keep the momentum.
The problem? Motivation is a limited resource. There will be times when work will suck the life out of you. You will feel lost, perfectionist, not in the mood, dry of creative juices…
Yet we still search for motivational videos on Youtube. Still scour Tiktok and Instagram for people who are ahead of us. The “role models” to keep our blood pumping.
Thing is, those people don’t care about us. They can’t directly affect our decision-making. They can’t directly change our minds…
Ditch motivation.
The best kickstarter? Accountability.
Let’s Hear it From Ancient Greece
The ancient Greeks were masters of productivity.
They believe that the success of an individual is the success of the community. It’s also what keeps the government thrive from corruption and misuse of office.
Today, accountability is still an important part of productivity.
That’s why for most people, working in an office is better than working at home.
It’s motivating to watch other people working around you. It’s difficult to slack off when you know you’re all working towards a common goal.
Working Alone? Don’t Have a Partner? Meet Focusmate
It’s really the best tool out there, most especially if you’re an introvert.
There’s no small talk in Focusmate. You give them a list of things you want to achieve in the next 30 minutes or an hour then you start working.
I have to admit, I don’t use this tool all the time. Only when I’m having trouble starting something.
It’s like not running out of a “co-working buddy,” with whom you can share goals with and work towards achieving them.
When the time’s up, you both tell each other how it went, the wins and losses.
For me, it’s not about whether or not I finished my goals. It’s just about taking the edge off, get rid of my perfectionism… and just start.
Focusmate has a LOT — I mean a strong community — of active users. You’ll always find someone to work with you.
The first 3 sessions are free! If you haven’t yet, I urge you to test it out now, do a 30-minute test drive, see how it works.
Focusmate Helps Keep Things Simple
Nowadays, I only use a basic to-do list (Zenkit To Do), a note-taking app to capture reminders and ideas (Notion) and Focusmate.
I try to steer clear from complicated systems. Just the ones that do the work: track my progress and give my clients a clear picture of where I am.
If the client doesn’t have a project manager, I don’t use the project management software they usually ask me to use. Unless it’s a simple checklist, updating a task list is a huge time consumer.
For personal productivity, keeping things simple is the key. Looking for the best time management app is basically just an excuse to not get started.
After your free sessions, Focusmate costs less than a cup of joe per month! That’s huge savings vs. all the other anti-procrastination apps combined.
